FLPFI ANNUAL MEMBERS FORUM DEBATE LOSS PREVENTION

29th November 2021

Held on the 29th and 30th October at the Grand Hyatt in Goa, the two-day event focused on fire risk and prevention across the National Building Code’s Group G: Industrial Buildings and data centres.

Following an introduction by FLPFI’s Executive Secretary and International Codes and Standards Consultant for FM Global Srikanth Yajjala, Ashok Menon, Director of Goa Fire & Emergency Services, delivered his opening presentation which focused on loss prevention in industrial buildings and how to control industrial fire hazards. Santosh Warick built on this theme from his role as the Director of Maharashtra Fire Service by discussing places of high fire risk, with case study evidence from several large and notable fires at manufacturing facilities across India.

FM Global’s Manikandan Krishnamoorthy and Srikanth Yajjala focused their presentation on the Fire Hazard in Machine Shops and Electronics Facilities with an overview on fire hazards and the safeguards required in these Group G: Industrial Buildings.

Day two’s theme was data centres, with Santosh Warick discussing legislation and practices, and fire consultant Ashwin Ijantkar investigating the challenges involved in loss prevention in data centres. Adrian Oxley, Principal Engineer at FM Global, gave members insight into Data Centre Fire Protection Solutions which was followed by a lively debate from all members on promoting best practice and the way forward.

Forum members stressed the importance of fire loss prevention education, awareness, training and information sharing at a national level, how to manage risk in terms of fire and the need to revise existing standards.
