FLPFI ANNUAL MEMBERS FORUM MARKS NATIONAL BUILDING CODE 2016’S 5th ANNIVERSARY

29th November 2022

Held on the 11th and 12th November at the Ritz Carlton in Pune, the two-day event saw delegates visit four manufacturing facilities on day one.  On the second day members had an open discussion on the National Building Code of India (NBC 2016) which celebrates its fifth anniversary.

The first day saw members have four educational visits to manufacturing facilities in Sanaswadi and Ranjangaon MIDC. This included John Deere’s tractor production facility and Fiat’s car production plant, followed by a visit to LG Electronics, an electrical appliance factory. They were also taken on a tour of a large warehouse, owned by logistics park provider IndoSpace. The purpose of the visits was to understand the hazards and recognise the importance of fire protection.

Day Two’s theme was ‘5 years of NBC 2016’, which opened with discussing the visits to the manufacturing facilities and what was learned in terms of fire loss prevention led by Srikanth Yajjala. This was followed by lively debate and discussion about the future revisions of National Building Code of India 2016 which was led by Abhay Purandare and Dr G C Misra.

Forum members stressed the importance of fire loss prevention within large scale industries which have not been adequately addressed in the current NBC 2016.

The FLPFI is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to help drive regulatory change and promote best practice. It’s ‘build to last’ philosophy focuses on loss prevention standards and loss prevention technologies that support building resilience in India.
